Review previous exams or review questions that the professor has written. Notice the directional words that are used in the exam questions. Circle each of the directional words as you read each question. When you reach the end of the test count the number of times each directional word was used. The directional words that were used most frequently will probably appear on the next exam. Use these words in the questions you create during your test preparation. This strategy is particularly helpful when you have exams that were previously given by the professor for that course, when the professor distributes review questions, or if the professor asks questions in class. Recognizing the directional words used by the professor forces you to pay attention to them and understand the specific information the professor wants you to provide. The following questions are taken from an economics quiz. The directional words are underlined.
