After Lecture Strategies
Use these techniques to help you improve note-taking AFTER the lecture is finished.
- Immediately after the lecture, read your notes to clarify meaning and decipher handwriting. Underline, star or box terms and major points.
- Tape a summary of the lecture that can be replayed for review.
- Share your notes with your note-taking buddy or another student to make sure your notes are complete and you haven't omitted something important
- Create flash cards containing the major points, definitions, formulas, or any other information you need to review.
- Reduce your notes by restructuring the information into a graphic organizer. This will illustrate your comprehension of the material. Use keywords and phrases to represent your thoughts.
- Reread your notes. Create headings and subheadings for the information in your notes. Write the headings and subheadings on an index card to use for review.
